Low-carb and sugar-free sweets for people with diabetes

This category grew out of everyday life with diabetes and is at home there. By now, people who reduce sugar, eat with an awareness of carbohydrates, or keep an eye on calories shop here just as much. You’ll find sweets without sugar and without added sugar (zero sweets, sugar-free snacking, or Süssigkeiten in Swiss spelling), selected by people who watch their carbohydrate intake every day. Anyone looking for Low Carb snacks or simply Low Carb sweets is just as much in the right place here as someone specifically reaching for Low Carb chocolate; low-carbohydrate sweets sit alongside those that simply leave out the sugar.

Low Carb sweets and sweets for people with diabetes are sorted here by digestible carbohydrates, which are listed on every product.

Who this is for

This category isn’t only for people living with diabetes: We specialize in everyday life with diabetes, and select products based on whether counting them is worthwhile. The selection is just as suitable if you reduce sugar, eat with an awareness of carbohydrates, or keep an eye on calories. The difference from the supermarket shelf isn’t the range, but the way it’s sorted: We read these nutrition facts tables every day.

Our range at a glance

  • Chocolate and dragées without added sugar, sweetened with erythritol, maltitol, or xylitol, including the popular sugar-free chocolate lentils; sugar-free chocolate is available as bars, sticks, and dragées.
  • Bars, wafers, and snacks for on the go and small appetites.
  • Gummy bears with a fruity taste, without added sugar.
  • Hard candies and lollipops as a sweet alternative between meals.
  • Cookies and cakes, from crisp-baked to moist, also as Low-Carb desserts or low-carbohydrate treats. A Low Carb cake with coffee is just as possible as a Low Carb dessert in the evening.
  • Pasta for savory dishes.
  • Drink powders when you want something liquid.

If you’re watching your calories

A good part of this category consists of drink powders, which have hardly any impact on calorie intake. Both INSTICK and Bolero drink powder contain 2 kilocalories and 0 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters in the prepared drink according to the nutrition facts table, making both sugar-free and calorie-free. Chocolate, cookies, and bars are different; they fall within the normal range for their product category. The nutrition facts table for each product tells you what applies to it.

What are they sweetened with?

Most commonly with erythritol, xylitol, maltitol, or sucralose. For sugar substitutes such as erythritol, sucralose, and polydextrose, the following applies: Consuming foods that contain these substances instead of sugar causes blood sugar levels to rise less after consumption than when consuming foods containing sugar. The effect relates to the substitution, and a varied, balanced diet remains the foundation. Many of these products contain sugar alcohols. In excessive amounts, they may have a laxative effect. The exact ingredients, nutrition facts, and manufacturer’s information are listed for every product.

Frequently asked questions

Are there sweets for people with diabetes here? The former “diabetic sweets” category was abolished when diet foods were discontinued: No food may now describe itself as suitable for people with diabetes. What many people with diabetes look for and find here instead: sweets without sugar or without added sugar, with complete nutrition facts so you can decide for yourself. Anyone searching for diabetes sweets today generally means exactly that.

Are all the products here sugar-free? No, and we deliberately say so. Some of the range is sugar-free, while another part contains no added sugar but naturally contains sugar, for example from milk ingredients. The product page states what applies to each individual product.

What about carbohydrates? The package lists total carbohydrates, which often look high for sugar-free sweets. The reason: Polyols such as maltitol, xylitol, and erythritol count as carbohydrates on the label, but are not or barely metabolized by the body. That’s why we calculate this for every product and state the digestible carbohydrates (Net Carbs) directly on the product page. You’ll find this transparency in hardly any other shop. Sweets without carbohydrates in the literal sense don’t exist; no recipe allows for that. Anyone looking for sweets without carbohydrates and sugar almost always means snacking without sugar and without carbohydrates that count toward the total, and those are exactly what we list. Drink powders come closest to sweets without carbohydrates.

Is any of this suitable for treating low blood sugar? No. This category is intended for snacking. For quickly available carbohydrates, we have separate categories: dextrose tablets, liquid dextrose, and dextrose in confectionery form.

Are these low-sugar sweets? Low sugar means no more than 5 grams of sugar per 100 grams. Some of the range falls below this, and much of it is even sugar-free; the nutrition facts table states what applies to your product. The same applies to low-calorie sweets: The threshold is 40 kilocalories per 100 grams, which only the drink powders meet here—and they are even calorie-free.

Are there Low Carb Christmas cookies? The sugar-free cookies are available all year round; during Advent, they also work as Christmas cookies without added sugar.

Do the sweets fit a keto diet—are they keto sweets? Keto is not a protected term, and we don’t make blanket promises. What matters is the digestible carbohydrate content of each product, and that’s listed on every product page. Many customers following a ketogenic diet choose accordingly, as do people looking for sweets for a Low Carb diet.

Is there a list of foods for people with diabetes? General food lists for people with diabetes have not existed since the diet category was discontinued, and we deliberately do not provide one. What matters is the nutrition facts for each product, which are shown openly here.

Are there savory products too? Yes, GI Pasta and other high-protein products under High Protein nutrition.

Sugar-free chocolate bars, carbohydrate-free sweets, and sweets with stevia are grouped together here.

Which sweets are low in carbohydrates? In this selection, the digestible carbohydrate content is listed on every product.
