About our idea for the first German diabetes sticker shop
Hello! My name is Sonja, I am the founder of Zuckerschmuck® and have been a type 1 diabetic for 35 years. At first I was employed under the strict conditions of the time under ICT, with fixed meal times and BE requirements and a strict ban on eating sweets (yes, that was how it was back then!).
20 years ago I switched to insulin pump therapy and was finally able to eat more flexibly and at the same time improve my therapy goals. Despite all the advantages, I always found my insulin pump aesthetically disturbing and could never openly admit to it. So I largely hid my diabetes from the public and only close friends and relatives even knew about it!
When the "bloodless" Freestyle Libre measuring system came onto the market at the end of 2014, I absolutely wanted to have it! The disadvantage: there is a white sensor stuck to the arm, which I find aesthetically very unloving and medical! This gave me the idea of designing ways to beautify diabetes aids, not just for the Freestyle Libre, but also for insulin pump catheters, other CGM systems and patch pumps.
My opinion on diabetes:
“When life gives you lemons, ask for salt and tequila!”
What is my goal with Zuckerschmuck®?
My idea for the start-up Zuckerschmuck®, founded in early 2015, was born: diabetes should have a fashionable component, every diabetic should feel comfortable and beautiful with and despite the beneficial aids stuck to their body and be able to deal with them openly. Ultimately, my goal is to help improve the acceptance and view of type 1 diabetes in society.
I am proud to have founded Zuckerschmuck®, the first online shop in Germany that sells stickers and tapes to improve diabetes. The positive response and feedback from Zuckerschmuck® customers makes me very happy!

Sonja founded the first German diabetes sticker shop with sugar jewelry: a shop that offers everything that Sonja missed in her 27 years with type 1 diabetes or for which she had collected ideas to make everyday life with diabetes more beautiful and pleasant. Sonja's passion was born. The shop grew rapidly and today offers a wide range of products from insulin pump bags, skin protection and adhesive residue removers to classic-modern, specially designed diabetes emergency jewelry and washable tattoos - everything that diabetics of all ages could desire. There is no shortage of ideas.
