Frequently asked questions

How does Zuckerschmuck calculate the digestible carbohydrates (Net Carbs)?

For the figure shown in the shop, we subtract the declared polyols from the carbohydrates. Always compare the same reference quantity, such as 100 g. This is our calculated Net Carbs figure and not an individual insulin dosage recommendation.

How do I convert the digestible carbohydrates into KE or BE?

Use the Diabetes KE calculator from Zuckerschmuck: select an item from the range or enter the value per 100 g, specify the quantity in grams, and the digestible carbohydrates will be converted into KE and BE; the calculator does not provide a dosage recommendation. One KE corresponds to 10 g of carbohydrates, and one BE to 12 g of carbohydrates.

Ingredients

Wheat flour, vegetable fat (palm fruit), sweetener: maltitol, peanut 14%, chocolate 10% (sweetener: maltitol, cocoa mass, emulsifier: lecithin (from soy), low-fat cocoa powder, flavorings), pasteurized egg mass, salt, raising agents: sodium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, flavorings, coloring: carotenes.

May contain milk, hazelnuts and other tree nuts, and sesame. Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect. The product contains no added sugar, but does contain naturally occurring sugar and the sweetener maltitol.

* Note on carbohydrates: Polyols are listed under carbohydrates in the nutrition table. We calculated the digestible carbohydrates as follows: carbohydrates minus polyols, as also described by diabinfo, the diabetes information portal of Helmholtz Munich and the German Diabetes Center, for sugar substitutes. Some polyols are partially digested, so observe how your values respond.

During the summer months, the chocolate may melt due to high outdoor temperatures. We store it in a cool place, but cannot guarantee melt-free shipping.

What does 3g net carbohydrates per bar mean when there are actually more carbohydrates per serving? Low-carb products say "no sugar" on the packaging, but the carbohydrate content is usually very high. What does that mean, and how much insulin do I need as a diabetic? Carbohydrates from polyols have no effect on metabolism and do not raise blood sugar levels, so they do not need to be included in the insulin dose. Specifically, this means: check the packaging to see how many carbohydrates are listed. Subtract the information "of which polyols." This gives you the number you need to consider for your insulin dose.

How do I calculate insulin for low carb products?

FAQ FAQ

Low-carb products say "sugar-free" on the packaging, but the carbohydrates are usually very high. What does that mean and how much insulin do I need for it? The carbohydrates from polyhydric alcohols have no effect on the metabolism and do not increase blood sugar levels, so they do not need to be calculated in terms of insulin dosage. In concrete terms, this means: you check the packaging to see how many carbohydrates are stated. From that, you subtract the information "of which polyhydric alcohols". The result is the number that you need to take into account in terms of insulin dosage.
