Low Carb Sweets Without Sugar: An Overview of Our Product Range

Updated: May 2026 · Zuckerschmuck Team

If you're wondering if there are sweets that fit a carbohydrate-conscious diet: yes, and more than you might think. Low-carb sweets have made a noticeable leap in recent years. They taste better, contain fewer countable carbohydrates (i.e., the portion you need to include in your meal calculations), and are free from classic household sugar. In this overview, we’ll show you our favorite selection at Zuckerschmuck.

🍫 What are Low Carb Sweets?

In short: Low-carb sweets are treats with a reduced proportion of digestible carbohydrates. Mostly without household sugar, often sweetened with sugar alcohols like maltitol, xylitol, or erythritol, or with sweeteners like steviol glycosides.

"Low Carb" does not automatically mean "carb-free." Many manufacturers deliberately make this transparent. On the packaging, you'll find information like "1.5 g digestible carbohydrates per bag" or "3 g digestible carbs per bar." This makes meal planning easier because you know what you're consuming beforehand.

✅ Also a Topic in Low-Carb and Ketogenic Diets

Low-carb sweets are not only interesting for people with diabetes. Those who follow a low-carb or ketogenic diet find similar benefits here: fewer digestible carbohydrates, often fewer calories. The selection ranges from sugar-free gummy bears with hardly any notable calories per bag to chocolate bars that can fit into a keto daily plan. Checking the nutritional values remains crucial.

🍬 Sugar-Free Gummy Bears, a Classic Reimagined

In short: Sugar-free gummy bears deliver the familiar fruit gum taste with only about 1.5 g of digestible carbohydrates per 75g bag (according to the manufacturer's label).

Gummy bears are among the most sought-after sweets in the diabetes community. They are portionable, portable, and taste like childhood. At Zuckerschmuck, we carry Diablo sugar-free gummy bears, as well as sugar-free cola bottles and gummy drops.

✅ What Makes Sugar-Free Gummy Bears Special

Sweetened with maltitol, fruity in taste, only approx. 1.5 g digestible carbohydrates per bag (according to manufacturer's specifications). Suitable as a small snack for in-between meals.

Important to know: Sugar alcohols like maltitol can have a laxative effect in larger quantities. We recommend trying a small amount and gradually increasing it, especially with children.

🍫 Sugar-Free Chocolate from Milk to Dark Chocolate

In short: Our sugar-free chocolates contain about 6 to 12 g of digestible carbohydrates per 75g bar, depending on the variety and filling (according to manufacturer's specifications).

When it comes to chocolate, the wheat is separated from the chaff: taste and consistency must be right, otherwise the bar ends up in the trash. We have selected brands for our assortment that we ourselves enjoy eating: Diablo from Belgium (sugar-free, aspartame-free) and NEOH from Austria (low carb).

✅ Diablo Milk Chocolate Without Sugar

Creamy, full-bodied, 7 g digestible carbohydrates per 85g bar according to the manufacturer's label. Sweetened with maltitol, aspartame-free. Direct to Diablo Milk Chocolate without Sugar.

✅ NEOH Chocolate Bars and Riegel

With only 3 g of digestible carbohydrates per bar according to the manufacturer's specifications, suitable for on-the-go. The bars are available as Coconut, Hazelnut, Peanut, Caramel Nuts, Berry, and Crunch. Check out our NEOH Coconut Low-Carb Bar.

✅ Chocolate Cookies and Sandwich Cookies

Diablo offers sugar-free sandwich cookies, almond cookies, and chocolate cream cookies with 3 to 5 g of digestible carbohydrates per piece.

🥨 Bars, Waffles, and Classic Snacks for On-the-Go

In short: Low-carb bars with about 2 to 3 g of digestible carbohydrates per piece are a practical snack for active people. They fit in your bag and don't require refrigeration.

Observation from the assortment: Bars are particularly popular with parents of children with type 1 diabetes and active adults. They fit into pencil cases, sports bags, and insulin cooler bags.

Recommendations from the NEOH line:

  • NEOH Coconut Bar with 3 g digestible carbohydrates per bar, in a 10+2 economy pack
  • NEOH Hazelnut Crunch Waffle with 3 g digestible carbohydrates per waffle
  • NEOH Caramel Nuts Bar with 2 g digestible carbohydrates per bar
  • NEOH Crunch Bar with 2 g digestible carbohydrates per bar

All values are based on manufacturer's specifications. The bars have a low glycemic index (i.e., a value that indicates how quickly the contained carbohydrates enter the blood).

🍝 GI Pasta: Low-Carbohydrate Noodles for Warm Meals

In short: GI Pasta are low-carbohydrate noodles with about 20 g of carbohydrates and 7 to 8 g of protein per 100 g (according to the manufacturer's label).

Sweets are nice, but sweets don't make you full. That's why our low-carb assortment also includes a warm meal: GI Pasta Low Carb Spaghetti. Also available as Fusilli and Penne.

The idea behind it: fewer carbohydrates, more protein, more fiber per 100g compared to standard pasta. You combine the pasta with your favorite sauce as usual. Specific statements about blood sugar response are individual and should be discussed with your nutritionist.

🥤 Candies, Marshmallows, and Sugar-Free Drink Powders

In short: Even classic treats like candies, marshmallows, and soft drinks are available sugar-free, usually with less than 2 g of digestible carbohydrates per serving.

Marshmallows can indeed be made sugar-free. The Damhert Peejay's sugar-free marshmallows (75 g) are a light highlight, great with hot cocoa or as a topping. The Diablo Strawberry Cream Candies without digestible carbohydrates (according to manufacturer's specifications) are a perfect match.

For drinks: INSTICK drink powders in flavors like Radler, Red Grape, Chai, or Fruit Punch. Sugar-free, vegan, gluten-free. One stick is enough for 0.5 liters.

🩹 Important: Low Carb is Not Emergency Hypoglycemia Relief

In short: Low-carb sweets are not a substitute for glucose in case of hypoglycemia. If your blood sugar is too low, you need quickly available glucose according to your diabetologist's plan.

This is the most important distinction in this article: Sugar-free chocolate or low-carb bars are not suitable for the acute treatment of hypoglycemia. For mild hypoglycemia, according to DDG and ADA guidelines, glucose is recommended [1,2], for example Dextro Energy, Diapura Gluco2Go or Hyporest Original. The complete selection can be found in the Glucose and Hypo Helpers category with tablets, cubes, liquid gels, and our Diabetes Hypobox.

Low-carb sweets are for everyday use, hypo helpers are for acute hypoglycemia. Both have their place.

👀 What to Look For When Buying

In short: Check digestible carbohydrates on the nutrition label, know the sweetener used, keep an eye on portion size.

At Zuckerschmuck, we personally test every new product before it enters our range. We always look at three things:

  • Read digestible carbohydrates, not just "sugar-free": "No added sugar" does not automatically mean "low carb." Look at the nutrition label.
  • Know the sweetener: Erythritol has a minimal effect on blood sugar according to EFSA assessment [3]. Maltitol can slightly raise blood sugar and has a laxative effect in larger quantities.
  • Adhere to portion size: A 75g bag with "1.5 g digestible carbohydrates" refers to the entire bag. Double the amount, and the values also double.

❓ Frequent Questions About Low Carb Sweets

Are low-carb sweets suitable for people with diabetes?

Low-carb sweets contain fewer digestible carbohydrates than classic sweets. Whether and how they fit into your personal diet and insulin strategy should be discussed with your diabetologist and nutritionist. A general "suitability" does not exist in a commercial context.

What does "digestible carbohydrates" mean?

Digestible carbohydrates are the carbohydrates you include in your meal or insulin calculations. Sugar alcohols like erythritol or maltitol are only partially or not counted as digestible carbohydrates because they are metabolized differently. Manufacturers therefore list this value separately.

How do sweeteners affect blood sugar?

This depends on the sweetener and the portion. According to EFSA, erythritol has a minimal effect [3]. Maltitol has a slight influence, significantly less than sucrose. Steviol glycosides (E960) are calorie- and carbohydrate-free. Personal reactions are individual and can be observed in CGM sensor readings.

Are sugar-free gummy bears vegan?

There are sugar-free gummy bears with classic gelatin and on a vegan basis (for example, with pectin). In our shop, we carry both variants. The information is available on the respective product page.

How many low-carb sweets can I eat?

There is no general upper limit. The total daily carbohydrate balance and individual tolerance to sugar alcohols are crucial. Start with small amounts the first time and observe your personal reaction.

Are low-carb sweets also useful for low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diets?

Those who follow a low-carbohydrate diet will find the same properties here: few digestible carbohydrates and no classic household sugar. It's important to look at the nutrition label and sweeteners, as some sugar alcohols can cause gastrointestinal reactions with higher consumption.
