Frequently asked questions
Does insulin need to be stored in the refrigerator?
According to the diabetes information portal diabinfo, unopened insulin cartridges belong in the refrigerator, and insulin should not be exposed to direct sunlight. For example, Lilly specifies 2°C to 8°C for unused Huminsulin cartridges and points out that the insulin must not freeze. The exact information for your insulin is stated in the package leaflet.
How long can insulin be kept after opening or without refrigeration?
According to diabinfo, you should store opened cartridges at room temperature and use them within one month. For example, Lilly specifies that Huminsulin should be stored at room temperature below 30°C after opening and used within 28 days at the latest. The time limit depends on the medication; your package leaflet is authoritative.
Can you inject insulin directly from the refrigerator?
According to diabinfo, you should take new cartridges out of the refrigerator half an hour before use, as insulin that is too cold can cause pain during injection.
Does the DIAVY refrigerator pen holder fit my insulin pen and needle size?
According to the manufacturer, all common pen diameters sit securely in the clips, from insulin to GLP-1 pens. We have no information on individual pen brands or needle sizes.
Where and how do I mount the DIAVY refrigerator pen holder in the fridge, and how many pens fit inside?
The holder accommodates up to 6 pens and, according to the manufacturer, is attached to the refrigerator door or side wall. You need neither tools nor a drill; installation takes less than a minute.
