🩹 At a glance: TapeGuard for Dexcom G6

In short: A flexible adhesive aid that allows tapes to be applied even at difficult insertion sites without outside help.

  • Material: flexible plastic that can be worn directly on the skin
  • Sensor compatibility: Dexcom G6 sensor
  • Scope of delivery: 1 TapeGuard frame + 3 skin-coloured cover patches
  • Application: Stick tape to the frame, place frame over the sensor, done
  • Suitable for: Adults and children, many body areas, including alternative insertion sites such as the flank or lower back
  • Care: one-time tape application, TapeGuard frame remains on the sensor until replacement

For sensitive skin or known adhesive reactions, we recommend testing a tape on a small area of skin beforehand [1].

❤️ My favourite insertion site: the lateral flank

Dear Dexcom G6 friends,

I'm Sonja from Zuckerschmuck and an enthusiastic Dexcom G6 wearer. My favourite spot is the lateral posterior flank, i.e. the lower back. Here I don't feel the sensor at all and spare the skin and space on my abdomen for my insulin pump catheters.

The sensor can be inserted quite unproblematically by myself at this site. The problem so far has been applying the cover tapes: I always needed help for that. With our tape cover aid TapeGuard, this problem has been solved.

🎯 How TapeGuard works in three steps

In short: Stick tape to the frame, place frame over the sensor, done.

  1. You stick the cover tape onto the small flexible “frame" of the TapeGuard.
  2. You place the taped TapeGuard over your sensor.
  3. You press the adhesive surface onto the skin, done.

The TapeGuard is flexible and comfortable to wear. It fits many body areas and body sizes, including children.

📦 Scope of delivery and material

The TapeGuard cover aids are made of flexible plastic that can be worn directly on the skin. They come in a set with three skin-coloured cover patches.

The cover patches can be reordered in a value pack or individually in skin-coloured or colourful versions.

🎨 Combine TapeGuard with tapes and stickers

In short: TapeGuard plus cover tape plus transmitter stickers give you the full style set for your Dexcom G6.

You can combine TapeGuard and cover tapes with our transmitter stickers. The transmitter stickers last for the entire transmitter lifetime of approximately 12 weeks.

❓ Frequently asked questions about TapeGuard and insertion sites

How does the TapeGuard adhesive aid work?

You stick the cover tape to the flexible frame of the TapeGuard and place the taped frame over your sensor. The frame helps you to apply the tape accurately and without slipping, even without outside help in difficult areas.

Where on the body can I insert the Dexcom G6?

The manufacturer recommends the abdomen (at least 8 cm away from the navel) and the back of the upper arm for adults. For children aged 2 and older, additionally the upper buttocks [2]. Many experienced users also insert the sensor at alternative sites such as the lateral flank or the lower back (Sonja's favourite spot, based on 31 years of diabetes experience). Important: alternative insertion sites are not officially manufacturer-recommended. Please discuss with your diabetes practice before trying them.

Is TapeGuard also available for FreeStyle Libre and other sensors?

Yes. TapeGuard is now available for all common sensor generations: FreeStyle Libre 1 and 2, FreeStyle Libre 3, Dexcom G6, Dexcom G7 and Medtronic Guardian/Enlite. Overview: all TapeGuard variants.

What distinguishes TapeGuard from an underpatch?

An underpatch is a thin plaster that you apply to the skin before inserting the sensor. The sensor is then inserted through the underpatch, so the direct sensor adhesive no longer has skin contact (useful for adhesive sensitivity). TapeGuard, on the other hand, is an application aid for the cover tape after inserting the sensor. Both solutions can be combined.

Can I combine TapeGuard with stickers?

Yes. The transmitter sticker adheres directly to the transmitter, the cover tape all around on the skin. TapeGuard helps with applying the tape, the sticker remains untouched. This way you combine covering and a personal look.

Is TapeGuard also suitable for children?

Yes. The flexible frame adapts to smaller body areas, and application is also unproblematic for children. For very young children, we recommend practising application with an accompanying adult first.
