Hello! My name is Sonja, I am the founder of Zuckerschmuck® and have been a type 1 diabetic since I was 7 years old. Initially, I was put on ICT under the strict conditions of the time, with fixed meal times and carbohydrate requirements, and the strict prohibition of eating sweets (yes, that's how it was back then!). 20 years ago, I switched to insulin pump therapy and was finally able to eat more flexibly and simultaneously improve my therapy goals. Despite all the advantages, I always found my insulin pump aesthetically disturbing and could never openly acknowledge it. So I largely hid my diabetes from the public, and only close friends and relatives even knew about it! When the "bloodless" measuring system Freestyle Libre came onto the market at the end of 2014, I absolutely wanted to have it! The downside: a white sensor sticks to the arm, which for my aesthetic sense was very carelessly and medically placed! This gave me the idea to design embellishment options for diabetes aids, not only for the Freestyle Libre, but also for insulin pump catheters, other CGM systems, and patch pumps. My idea for the startup Zuckerschmuck®, founded at the beginning of 2015, was born: diabetes should be given a fashionable component, every diabetic should feel comfortable and beautiful with and despite their beneficial, body-attached aids, and be able to openly deal with it. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to improving the acceptance and perception of type 1 diabetes in society. I am proud to have founded Zuckerschmuck® as the first online shop in Germany that sells stickers and tapes to beautify diabetes. The great response and positive feedback from Zuckerschmuck® customers make me extremely happy!
