- Increases saliva production in cases of dry mouth
Everyday use
The high xylitol concentration (approx. 99.5%) has an alkaline effect, unlike conventional sugar, and neutralizes harmful acids in the mouth that could attack tooth enamel. Consuming foods and drinks containing xylitol instead of sugar helps maintain tooth remineralization. Ideally, let the candy slowly dissolve in your mouth after every meal and after brushing your teeth for the last time (do not chew it), allowing the saliva to flow through your rows of teeth. Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect. Store in a dry, dark, and cool place. Due to the handmade production, individual variations in shape and color are possible.

* Note on carbohydrates: Polyols are listed under carbohydrates in the nutrition facts table. We calculated the digestible carbohydrates as follows: carbohydrates minus polyols, as described by diabinfo, the diabetes information portal of Helmholtz Munich and the German Diabetes Center, for sugar substitutes. Some polyols are partially digested, so observe how your levels respond.
Important for pets: Xylitol is not suitable for pets; dogs in particular must not eat it. Like grapes and chocolate, it is toxic to dogs and can be dangerous even in small amounts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert the digestible carbohydrates into carbohydrate units (KE) or bread units (BE)?
Use the Diabetes KE Calculator from Zuckerschmuck: select an item from the range or enter the value per 100 g, specify the amount in grams, and the digestible carbohydrates will be converted into KE and BE; the calculator does not provide a dosage recommendation. One KE corresponds to 10 g of carbohydrates, and one BE to 12 g of carbohydrates.

How do I calculate insulin for low carb products?
Low-carb products say "sugar-free" on the packaging, but the carbohydrates are usually very high. What does that mean and how much insulin do I need for it? The carbohydrates from polyhydric alcohols have no effect on the metabolism and do not increase blood sugar levels, so they do not need to be calculated in terms of insulin dosage. In concrete terms, this means: you check the packaging to see how many carbohydrates are stated. From that, you subtract the information "of which polyhydric alcohols". The result is the number that you need to take into account in terms of insulin dosage.
