The amount that counts toward your intake is calculated by subtracting the listed “of which polyols” from the total carbohydrates. Consuming foods and drinks that contain maltitol syrup and xylitol instead of sugar causes blood sugar levels to rise less after consumption than when consuming sugary foods and drinks. This effect occurs when you consume the product instead of a sugary food. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle remain important. It is best to discuss how to interpret this for yourself with your diabetes team. Pantothenic acid contributes to normal mental performance; thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 contribute to the normal functioning of the nervous system. Store the Schlaufüchse protected from light, in a dry place, and tightly closed; after opening, keep them airtight. Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect, so we recommend starting with a small amount and increasing it gradually.
Important for pets: Xylitol is not suitable for pets; dogs in particular must not eat it. Like grapes and chocolate, it is harmful to dogs and can be dangerous even in small amounts.

How do I calculate insulin for low carb products?
Low-carb products say "sugar-free" on the packaging, but the carbohydrates are usually very high. What does that mean and how much insulin do I need for it? The carbohydrates from polyhydric alcohols have no effect on the metabolism and do not increase blood sugar levels, so they do not need to be calculated in terms of insulin dosage. In concrete terms, this means: you check the packaging to see how many carbohydrates are stated. From that, you subtract the information "of which polyhydric alcohols". The result is the number that you need to take into account in terms of insulin dosage.
