Zuckerschmuck's sensor holders for the FreeStyle Libre sensor come in two variations: as an integrated system or as an interchangeable band system. What's the difference – and which option is better for you personally?

🩹 At a glance: Sensor holders for FreeStyle Libre
A sensor holder (also called a sensor armband) is a textile camouflage aid that discretely hides your FreeStyle Libre sensor under clothing and provides additional support in everyday life. Unlike adhesive patches, it uses an elastic strap — no additional adhesive on your skin.
- Compatibility: FreeStyle Libre 1, 2 and 3 (Manufacturer: Abbott Diabetes Care)
- Sensor dimensions for orientation: Libre 1 + 2 approx. 35 mm diameter × 5 mm height; Libre 3 approx. 21 mm diameter × 2.9 mm height [1]
- Strap: elastic, can be shortened with scissors, no clamps or seams
- Care: 30 °C delicate wash, do not iron hot, do not tumble dry
❓ What is the difference between integrated and interchangeable band systems?
In short: With the integrated system, the holder and band are permanently connected — cheaper price, one design per holder. With the interchangeable band system, you can freely combine the holder and band and change them depending on your outfit.
❤️ Sensor holders in the integrated system
The integrated system is the more affordable option and is the right choice for you if you are perfectly happy with a specific holder color and a single band design. While changing bands is possible here, it involves a bit of fiddling. Therefore, with the integrated system, we only recommend changing the band if absolutely necessary — for example, if your band has been damaged or heavily soiled for some reason. The band can be washed at 30°C on a delicate cycle — do not tumble dry, do not iron hot!
💎 Sensor holders in the interchangeable band system
Our interchangeable band system is unique and features an innovative and sophisticated plug-in system: The interchangeable band holder, which you can choose in a classic shape or designer shapes, consists of the visible part and an inner ring. The elastic band is clamped in here and locks itself into place. This means you can freely switch between different holder shapes and band designs and perfectly match the sensor holder to your rest of your outfit.
✅ Advantages of all Zuckerschmuck sensor holders
All sensor holders for the FreeStyle Libre are a textile concealing option with many advantages:
- Suitable for sensitive skin or adhesive sensitivity: apart from the sensor adhesive, your skin does not come into contact with any other adhesive. Adhesive reactions around CGM sensors are documented in specialist literature [2,5] — a sensor armband avoids any additional adhesive patch application.
- Perfect for temporary concealment: for example, you can use the sensor holder for sports, swimming, bathing or the sauna (yes, the Zuckerschmuck sensor holder can even withstand that!) as additional concealment and then remove it again if you don't need additional concealment in everyday life. Of course, the sensor holder is also suitable for round-the-clock concealment.
- Slim design and comfortable to wear: our sensor holders are narrow and do not bulk. The elastic strap can be easily adjusted to any arm circumference and locks itself into place — without annoying clamps or seams. Excess strap length can simply be trimmed with scissors; no sewing is required.
- Doesn't look like a medical device: with our great colorful bands, the sensor holder looks more like a fitness band — simply Zuckerschmuck 🌈
- Can be combined with stickers: you can combine the sensor holder with our Zuckerschmuck stickers for FreeStyle Libre and design your sensor to be colorful, glittery or concealing as you wish.
- Durable and reusable: compared to classic plasters, the sensor holder is a durable concealing option — reusable and more sustainable in everyday life. Our elastic bands are machine washable at 30°C on a delicate cycle. Do not iron hot, do not tumble dry.
❓ Frequently asked questions about the sensor holder
Is the sensor holder suitable if I react to adhesive patches?
The sensor holder itself does not stick to the skin — so you save yourself any additional adhesive application. Adhesive reactions to CGM sensors are described in the specialist literature [2,5]; in case of repeated skin reactions, we recommend speaking to your diabetologist in parallel.
Does the sensor holder hold up when swimming, bathing or in the sauna?
Yes. The elastic strap is waterproof and also holds up in the sauna. After swimming or using the sauna, we recommend rinsing the strap briefly to remove chlorine or salt residues.
What size is a FreeStyle Libre sensor?
The FreeStyle Libre 1 + 2 has a diameter of approx. 35 mm with a height of 5 mm; the newer FreeStyle Libre 3 measures approx. 21 mm diameter with a height of 2.9 mm [1]. Our sensor holders are precisely manufactured for the respective sensor generation.
Can I wear the sensor holder during sports?
Yes — many users explicitly wear it during sports because the elastic band provides additional protection for the sensor against friction from clothing or equipment. However, wearing it does not replace a strong sensor adhesive.
How do I wash the strap?
Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle. Please do not iron hot or tumble dry — otherwise the elasticity would suffer.
What distinguishes the sensor holder from an adhesive patch for covering?
An adhesive patch (overpatch) is additionally glued over the sensor — i.e., adhesive on adhesive on skin. The sensor holder is a textile alternative without a second adhesive layer. Both solutions are justified; which one you prefer is individual.
