Frequently asked questions
How does Zuckerschmuck calculate net carbohydrates?
For our shop information, we subtract the stated polyols from the total carbohydrates. Always compare the same reference amount, such as 100 g. This is our calculated net carb figure and not an individual insulin dosage recommendation.
Are the sugar-free candies suitable for diabetics?
The candies have no added sugar and are sweetened with sweeteners instead of sugar. Per 100 g, this results in 0.9 g of net carbohydrates (84.1 g carbohydrates minus 83.2 g polyols).
According to the manufacturer, one serving or one candy contains 3.5 g of carbohydrates. Since no separate polyol amount is given for the serving, the exact value of net carbohydrates per candy cannot be directly calculated from the manufacturer's information.
How do I convert net carbohydrates into carbohydrate units (KE or BE)?
Using the Zuckerschmuck diabetes KE calculator: Select an item from the range or enter the value per 100 g, specify the quantity in grams, and the net carbohydrates will be converted into KE and BE; the calculator does not provide a dosage recommendation. One KE corresponds to 10 g of carbohydrates, one BE to 12 g of carbohydrates.

Note on carbohydrates: Polyols are listed under carbohydrates in the nutritional table. Therefore, observe how your individual levels react to them.

How do I calculate insulin for low-carb products?
With low-carb products, the packaging says "sugar-free," but carbohydrates are listed, often in large quantities. What does this mean, and how much insulin do I need for them? The carbohydrates from polyols do not affect metabolism and do not raise blood sugar levels, so they do not need to be calculated for insulin dosage. Specifically, this means you check the packaging for the carbohydrate content. From this, you subtract the amount listed as "of which polyols." The result is the number you need to consider for your insulin dosage.
